Waikīkī Neighborhood Board No. 9: Ongoing Community Reports, Trends, and Civic Issues

About the Waikīkī Neighborhood Board

The Waikīkī Neighborhood Board No. 9 is part of the Neighborhood Commission Office (NCO), which supports a system of 33 elected neighborhood boards across Honolulu. The NCO ensures that local communities have a voice in city and state government through advisory participation. Board members are volunteers elected to represent their sub-districts. While they have no legislative power, they influence public policy through resolutions, public comment, and agency coordination.

Neighborhood boards are organized by geographic boundaries. Waikīkī has its own board — No. 9 — due to its distinct mix of residential, commercial, and tourist zones. This board includes three sub-districts divided by Kapahulu Avenue, Ala Wai Boulevard, and Kalākaua Avenue. Regular board meetings cover public safety, infrastructure, quality of life, and long-term development in Waikīkī. This document contains a living archive of monthly summaries and community trends.
